The Medtronic Cell Saver Model Autolog is designed for use in intra-operative blood salvage, which is the passive recovery of a patient’s dried blood loss, its processing, washing, and reinfusion. The system in question can collect, wash, and infuse red blood cells, eliminating the need for allogeneic blood transfusion, which can significantly impact the patient's immune response. The Autolog product is commonly employed in procedures wherein considerable blood loss is likely to occur, for instance in cardiac, orthopedic, trauma, and vascular surgeries.
